Catherine McCormack motto | I read very few scripts I'm passionate about. Maybe one in every twenty or thirty. |
Contrary to many actresses who had a posh upbringing, Catherine was born in Alton, Hampshire, England, and had her mother die when she was six-years-old. Catherine’s father carried on, and raised her by himself while employed as a steelworker. Catherine attended the Convent of Our Lady of Providence, which probably wasn’t as a liberal and freewheeling a school as it sounds. Nonetheless, she focused on liberal arts, and became an actress.
Catherine’s first feature role was in a small film, Loaded, in 1994. However, Braveheart followed one year later, in 1995, and thrust her into the international spotlight. Catherine’s representatives then landed her a slew of roles in unsuccessful films (Catherine, if you’re reading this we hope you’ve fired whoever was “working” on your behalf during the late 90’s…Was it the same people who were steering John Travolta’s career after Pulp Fiction? Anyway, we digress). In 2001, Catherine bounced back to international attention with the role of Brad Pitt’s love interest in Spy Game. She has most recently been seen in 2007’s 28 Weeks Later.
Catherine has a British mini-series coming in 2008, and she continues to pursue her stage work. She had done this throughout the early 2000’s, and despite her success there (nominated for a Laurence Olivier Theatre Award in 2001…Whatever that is), we hope she’ll return to features. Hey, we’re Americans, we don’t care about the theater, or theatre, however you want to spell it.
