Life Story

In 2001, People Magazine voted her as one of the most beautiful people in the world, but actress Sydney Tamiia Poitier is more than just a pretty face. The daughter of Academy Award winning actor Sidney Poietier and Joanna Shimkus, Sydney was born into a Hollywood family. But she didn't let use her famous namesake to further her career. Instead, she relied on talent.

Her first big break came in 2003, when she was cast as as the star of the short-lived UPN series "Abby". Next, she was series regular Rebecca Askew on Joan of Arcadia (Amber Tamblyn). Prior to those roles, she appeared in small roles in films such as MacArthur Park (Rachel Hunter, Julie Delpy) and The Devil's Cat. Her success on the small screen led a part on the teen detective show Veronica Mars (Kristen Bell), where Poitier played Molly Dret. Unfortunately, due to budget costs her character was later dropped from the show. Her other TV credits include a guest spot on Grey's Anatomy (Katherine Heigl). She is also rumored to star in the re-imaginging of the Knight Rider TV show, due in 2008.

In 2007, she also starred in the Quentin Tarantino/Robert Rodriquez ode to B-movies Grindhouse (Rose McGowan), playing radio host Jungle Julia in Tarintino's Death Proof portion of the film. You come for that great ass dancing, you stay for Kurt Russell's brilliance.

She also starred in the Snoop Dogg horror film Hood of Horror.
