Mariel Margaret Hamm aka Mia biography

Real biography: Mia Hamm didn’t have to take off her shirt (but it would have been nice) to be the most beloved, honored, and well known U.S. female athlete of all time. Little girls that like kicking balls all over the world envy this woman who made the list of the greatest soccer players alive (both men and women).

LIFE STORY

Mia was athletically gifted from the beginning and excelled in soccer right away. She went to school at the University of North Carolina (Chapel Hill) and led them to the national title four times. She was the youngest player ever on the U.S. National Women’s Soccer Team when she was 15. She’s scored 108 international guys…I mean goals and is second all time with 259 international appearances. Basically, if you play soccer and do not wear a jock, she was your role model.

She divorced her high school sweetheart in 2001 and married the ever moving baseball shortstop Nomar Garciaparra in 2003 and soon decided that a family was more important than the game she reined supreme over and so she retired in 2004 against Mexico so that she could start to have Garciaparra’s children. As in many of her soccer games one goal was not enough, so she popped out twins Grace Isabella and Ava Caroline on March 28, 2007.

She’ll be inducted into the Texas Sports Hall of Fame in 2008 and continues to use Icy Hot to relieve joint pain and Gatorade to replenish essential vitamins and minerals after strenuous Go Fish games.
