She was born in Long Island to a Panamanian Nurse and a Trinidad and Tobago police detective and went on to graduate with a bachelor's degree in anthropology from Harvard University.Starting to sing at a very young age, Ali appeared with Herbie Hancock on an episode of Sesame Street and won the Star Search television contest two times. Her breakthrough came when she was cast in The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air. She sang on various episodes of the show.
