Born in Berkley California, her biological parents have been the subject of much speculation, but her adopted father is the great Lionel Richie. She attended The Buckley School in Sherman Oaks, CA where she met friends Kim Stewart and Paris Hilton.

She is an accomplished figure skater and has studied cello, violin, guitar and piano. She is perhaps most famous for her party girl lifestyle and high profile friendships with Tara Reid, Paris Hilton, Nicky Hilton, Bijou Phillips, Kimberly Stewart and Lindsay Lohan, but professionally she has stared in “The Simple Life” (Paris Hilton) and has written two books, a semi autobiographical novel and a style guide.Okay, now let’s talk about the trashy stuff. She was arrested for driving on a suspended license and possession of heroine (2003). She was arrested for driving under the influence after her car was spotted going in the wrong direction on exit ramp (2006). She has been addicted to heroine and sought treatment in rehab. She had a very public fall out with best friend Paris Hilton, but has since reconciled. Her highly publicized weight loss has given rise to claims that she has an eating disorder, accusations that she adamantly denies. She is currently denying rumors that she has been smoking while pregnant.

On January 11, 2008, her first child Harlow Winter Kate Madden was born in Los Angeles. Daddy is Joel Madden of Good Charlotte.
