Rated one of Variety’s Top 10 Actors to Watch, in 2006, Lizzy Caplan is an American actress best known for her role in the feature film Mean Girls (alongside human train wreck Lindsay Lohan), and for starring in the comedy series Related and The Class.
Lizzy grew up in Beverly Hills, California, in a Reform Jewish family. She attended Alexander Hamilton High School in Los Angeles, and starred in several stage productions there. Specifically, Lizzy was enrolled in Hamilton’s Academy of Music, and graduated in 2000 alongside fellow young actor Emile Hirsch.
Lizzy’s acting career actually began while she was still in high school. In 1999, she landed the role of Sara on the TV series Freaks and Geeks. Subsequently, many other roles came Lizzy’s way, including roles in From Where I Sit (2000), Orange County (2002), and a recurring role in the TV series Smallville. It was in 2004’s Mean Girls, that Lizzy made her big breakthrough. She gained notice playing the “alternative” girl. This must have been a new experience for Lizzy, as she comes from a conservative family. Fortunately for her, she had Lindsay Lohan’s bad behavior to pick up tips from. Even more fortunately, Lindsay Lohan’s coke snorting, panty-less ways didn’t rub off on Lizzy, and she’s gone on land even more high profile roles. In 2005-2006, she starred in the TV series Related, and in 2006-2007, TV series The Class.
Currently, Lizzy has several projects in development. Notable amongst them is Cloverfield, a new movie from J.J. Abrams, the man behind Lost and Alias. If J.J.’s golden touch continues, Lizzy should be on a rocketship headed straight to the A-list.
