Liz Lieu aka Liz biography

Real biography: Nicknamed the Poker Diva by fellow poker players because of her flair for style, Liz has developed quite a unique image at the tables. Her petite frame and fashionable appearance may be deceiving because when the cards are dealt, her aggressive style, serious demeanor, and killer instincts take over. She is a competitor at heart, and she will just as easily take your chips as share a laugh with you when the game is over.

Early Life

Born on August 2, 1974 in Vietnam, her parents brought the family to America a year later. Liz was raised in Colorado with her older sister.

At the age of 13, Liz was playing Chinese poker with friends and began a long love affair with the cards. She started her own home game when she was 18 with a friend, where they spread hold'em and pai gow tiles in what was to become a lucrative albeit short-term business. When her father had a heart attack, Liz's entrepreneurial spirit kicked in, and she told her parents to quit their jobs and enjoy the rest of their lives. She stepped up her game and began providing for them, which is what she has done ever since.

Poker Career

You may not have seen Liz play poker on TV (and that’s a crying shame), as she is primarily a high stakes cash game player, and not so much a tournament player.

Though Liz has excelled at limit hold'em cash games for a number of years, she didn't embrace tournament play until the 2005 World Series of Poker. She donates 20% of her tournament earnings to charity. In 2006, Liz was honored by the WSOP and ESPN as a Final Table Grand Marshall along with Johnny Chan.

After gracing the covers of several magazines in 2006, including Deal and American Poker Player, Liz has added Maxim's Total Poker, Woman Poker Player, Midwest Gaming & Travel, Poker Player, World Poker Tour, Flush, Maximal, Poker Pro Europe, and Poker Pro France to her list of covers in 2007.

In September 2007 Liz signed an exclusive partnership with Chilipoker and acts as an Ambassador for that online poker room.Liz has homes and both Los Angeles and Las Vegas and can be found most days playing in the high limit rooms of the Commerce Casino and the Bellagio.
