EXPANDED MEMORY (EMS) definition

What is EXPANDED MEMORY (EMS): Extra physical memory, designed to work above one megabyte and conform to the industry standard LIM-EMS (Lotus-Intel-Microsoft Expanded Memory Specification). Can be emulated in extended memory with DOS 5's EMM386. EXE device driver when installed in your CINFIG.SYS file. Expanded memory works by swapping "pages" of memory above IMb into reserved memory, where DOS can then access the information directly. See also extended memory.
