Real biography: Introduction

It's a real shame that all liberal hollywood stars can't be as attractive as Oscar winner Susan Sarandon. She's without a doubt, the hottest woman her age in Hollywood.

Life Story

Few women in Hollywood have aged as gracefully as movie star and activist Susan Sarandon. The star of numerous films including Thelma and Louise (Geena Davis) and Little Women (Winona Ryder, Claire Danes), grew up in New York and was part of a large Roman Catholic family. She attended The Catholic University of America in 1964, where she studied drama and met her first husband Chris Sarandon.

Susan was discovered while tagging along with her husband to an audition for the film Joe. While her husband didn't get the role, Susan got a part in the film. After her first film performance, she laid low in Hollywood, appearing in only a few small roles in independent pictures. Her next film, The Rocky Horror Picture Show, catapualted her into the limelight. Despite the film's poor critical reception, it went on to be a blockbuster cult film and a staple of midnight movie theaters across the world. It didn't hurt that Sarandon wears little clothing throught the film.

In 1981, Sarandon was nominated for her first Academy Award for the film Atlantic City. In 1983, she appeared in the controversial vampire film The Hunger. In the film Sarandon shocked audiences by appearing in a graphic lesbian love scene with co-star Catherine Denevue. Sarandon would use her sex appeal again in 1988 for the baseball film Bull Durham, where she met her current husband Tim Robbins.

After the success of Bull Durham, Sarandon appeared in several films such as Thelma and Louise and Dead Man Walking. She received and Academy Award nomination for Best Supporting Actress for Thelma and Louise and took home the award for Best Actress for the film Dead Men Walking. Sarandon has the unique distinction of being the first woman to win the award for playing a nun.

Throughout the 1990's, Sarandon appeared in numerous films, such as Stepmom (Julia Roberts), The Client, Lorenzo's Oil and Anywhere but Here with Natalie Portman.

With her string of successful films, Sarandon has been able to use her fame to speak on issues important to her. Among the many ideas that Sarandon supports are world peace, the green party, UNICEF, Gay and Lesbian Rights and issues associated with Apartheid.

Her next film will be the Peter Jackson movie The Lovely Bones (Rachel Weisz).

In 2008, she got an Emmy nomination in the Actress in a Mini Series or Movie category for her work on "Bernard and Doris".
