Life StoryActress Sarah Polley has been a numerous films including the Dawn of the Dead remake and Go (Katie Holmes). Before becoming well known as an adult actress, Polley started her career doing TV shows and films at the age of four. Her first big break came with the CBS drama Road to Avonlea. The show was a big hit in Canada and was brought to the United States thanks to the Disney Channel. With her new found success, the financially independent Polley dropped out of school to focus on acting.
At the age of 12, during the Gulf War, she wore a peace symbol to a children's award show and was seated with her bosses from the Dinsey Corporation. Upon seeing the peace necklace the Disney execs asked her to remove it, but Polley refused. It is rumored that this incidence blacklisted Polley from ever making another Disney film or TV show.
But Polley didn't seem to care. She took on more adult roles, as in the successful independent film Exotica with Mia Kirshner. Her first major role as and adult was in the critically acclaimed 1997 drama The Sweet Hereafter. In the film, Polley also shows off her singing ability. Her impressive acting and singing talents got Hollywood's attention. She was offered the role of Penny Lane in Almost Famous, but turned it down to film a smaller film My Life Without Me. The role of Penny Lane eventually went to Kate Hudson. Her other film credits include No Such Thing in 2001, Dawn of the Dead with Ving Rhames and The Secret Life of Words with Tim Robbins. Her next film will be the science fiction film Splice with Adrian Brody.
Aside from acting, Polley has also stepped behind the camera and has six directing credits so far, including the feature film Away from Her.
Polley is also an avid supporter of Canada's New Democratic Party. She lost several teeth during a protest against the Provincial Progressive government in 1995.
