IntroductionRose Byrne is an Australian actress. She can currently be seen on the FX series, "Damages," playing opposite American dramatic institution Glenn Close.
Life StoryByrne is of Irish-Scottish descent and was born in Sydney, Australia to Jane, a primary school administrator, and Robin Byrne, a semi-retired statistician. She has an older brother, George, and two older sisters, Alice and Lucy. She began taking acting classes at age eight, joining the Australian Theatre for Young People and also attended the University of Sydney. in 1999 Byrne studied acting at the Atlantic Theatre Company developed by David Mamet, who's liberal use of the F bomb in his writing makes dialogue sound more authentic. In fact, the "insider" nickname for the Atlantic Theater company is "The F*cking A." Or so we wish it would be. That's yours, if you're reading this, David Mamet. Which you probably are. MAMET!
In 2002, Byrne entered Hollywood with a small role as Dormé, the loyal handmaiden to Natalie Portman's Queen Padme Amidala, in George Lucas' Star Wars: Episode II - Attack of the Clones and appeared the same year in Matt Dillon movie City of Ghosts. Both films' profound themes were sadly overshadowed by egregious overuse of CGI space battles (and CGI ghosts for the latter).
In 2004, Byrne starred as Briseis the Trojan queen/widow who was abducted during the Trojan War by Achilles (played by Brad Pitt), in Wolfgang Petersen's epic Troy also starring Eric Bana, Peter O’Toole and Orlando Bloom. Dude, did you see when Achilles jumped up and stabbed that dude in the neck? F*cking unreal! I know. Totally.
She then reunited with Peter O'Toole in the acclaimed BBC TV drama Casanova. Byrne appeared with Snoop Dogg in Danny Green's film The Tenants, based on Bernard Malamud's novel. She plans to reunite with both Snoop and O'Toole for the upcoming social comedy Old Dogg, in which Snoop acclimates O'Toole to the life of a gangsta in South Los Angeles after O'Toole is wrongfully accused of attempted murder and, through a logic loophole, is sentenced to community service in Compton. Byrne will play O'Toole's probation officer, who ultimately falls for Snoop in a third act scene when his heart of gold, having been buried under alpha male testosterone necessitated by living in a tough urban environment, is revealed.
Byrne has been in a relationship with Australian writer, director and actor Brendan Cowell for over four years. The couple maintained a long-distance relationship for much of their relationship, with work commitments meaning they were often on separate continents. However, Cowell has planned a move from Sydney to New York City, due to Byrne's success on Damages. Previously she dated Australian writer, director Gregor Jordan who directed her in Two Hands. And we'll leave the juvenile zinger up to you.
